"Shalom" is used widely as a greeting around the world and often is equated with peace, the absence of conflict, or freedom from fear of violence in relationships. But it also embodies a deeper meaning that includes serenity before God, wholeness, completeness, health, welfare, safety, tranquility, contentment, soundness, prosperity, and rest. Finding Shalom: Journeys Beyond Peace aims to foster shalom in this sense for anyone who is dealing with conflict, suffering life difficulties, or just wants a better life.
The book draws from published works of prominent people in appropriate fields, stories of crime perpetrators, victims, and alcohol and drug abusers who have changed their lives, and other individuals who have changed and built lives that are by and large characterized by shalom. It posits that you can find shalom if you intentionally and purposefully look for it by doing things that are good and worthwhile standing alone and that will in combination cause shalom to ensue. You can explore ways to listen to God and discern his will; build the three graces of love, faith, and hope into your life; and take a number of specified individual actions to transform your life. Doing such things will nurture the seeds of peace in your life and help you journey toward shalom.
