Peter Nordgren shares the findings of his family as
they become intimate with their place on water in far northern Wisconsin.

Peter D. Nordgren grew up around Couderay in northwest Wisconsin, where his family's business was canoes. He graduated from Winter Schools and earned a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Superior, M.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, and Ph.D from theUniversity of Minnesota.He is the founder of WXPR Public Radio in Rhinelander, and amongthe founders of WOJB at Lac Courte Oreilles, KMHA in northwest North Dakota, and KUWS in Duluth-Superior. He has taught and worked at Bemidji State University and Nicolet College, and is professor emeritus of library science at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Paddling, XC skiing, and hiking while maintaining the North Country National Scenic Trail are among his and Deb's retirement activities. He writes occasional articles for Silent Sports magazine.

Deborah Davis Schlacks is Professor Emeritus of English at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. She retired in 2018 and now teaches literature classes on a volunteer basis in the University for Seniors program at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. She is the author of the book American Dream Visions: Chaucer's Surprising Influence on F. Scott Fitzgerald (1994), and several articles concerning Fitzgerald, including "St. Paul, Minnesota, St. Paul Academy, and St. Paul Academy Now and Then," which appeared in the Cambridge University Press publication F. Scott Fitzgerald in Context in 2013. Dr. Schlacks has also served as the editor of works as diverse as Casino Gaming and Lighting Recommended Practice (Illuminating Engineering Society, 1995), Superior Figure Skating Club Annual Skate Show programs (2006-12), and each term's University for Seniors course catalog since 2022.
