(Previously published as A Conversation With An Arachnid by James R. Dorsett)
What happens when a science-minded professor meets a talking spider with a moral compass and a web full of questions?
In this fictional conversation about God, creation, and belief, a retired academic — rooted in reason and the scientific method — is about to engage in the most unusual dialogue of his life. His unlikely conversation partner? An orb-weaving arachnid who speaks in analogies, argues with logic, and nudges him toward truths too vast for a microscope.
This isn’t your average spiritual book. It’s a lighthearted debate about faith and logic, written for those who distrust organized religion, but remain curious about questions of meaning, morality, and the origins of life.
Set entirely on a park's walking trail, Evidence in the Web unfolds as a quirky, philosophical back-and-forth between two perspectives—one grounded in empirical inquiry, the other spun from timeless moral insight. Together, they explore creation, free will, consciousness, and what it means to be human.
Perfect for fans of The Screwtape Letters or The Language of God, this Christian allegory about creation speaks to both skeptics and seekers, scientists and storytellers.
Whether you're wrestling with belief or simply love a spiritual dialogue framed by reason, this book offers insight, humor, and just enough web to get caught in.
Themes Explored:
- Creation and morality exploration
- Philosophical discussion about belief
- Fictional theology in allegorical style
- Spider postulates spiritual life lessons
Curious? You should be.

JAMES R. DORSETT is a professor emeritus whose career over four decades has spanned the fields of engineering, international business, and higher education. Although he received Christ at an early age, he began to drift away and eventually became a skeptic of Christianity. For years, he sought answers to questions about God's existence, reality, and more through other religious and mystic philosophies. However, it wasn't until he started a family that he found his way back to Christ and has followed Him ever since. It is at the crossroad of his spiritual, business, engineering, and academic experiences that Evidence in the Web (previously titled, A Conversation with an Arachnid) was born.
