To let go of the fear of being ridiculed because of his physical appearance. Then Jason meets Gina. He is immediately entranced by the girl but will he heed his uncle's advice or keep hiding from the world, including Gina?

Following his mother's death, he is adopted by Uncle Henry and becomes a part of Henry's traveling carnival. Unexpectedly, Gina, a journalist working for ''The Bugle'', tracks him down after hearing rumors about his supernatural powers. Initially, Jason doesn't trust her, because he lives a secluded life, sheltered from the outside world. Finally, Gina succeeds in gaining his trust. They bond over their respective traumas and vulnerabilities. Behind the scenes, a corrupt political figure blackmails a prestigious religious leader into killing Jason. His reasons for wanting Jason dead are infuriating and shocking. There are many twists-and-turns in the book--even down to the last page.
The ending is beautiful and heartbreaking.
