The city of The Rook-population 152,000 (not counting the undead-and many don't)-is a curious mix of an Elizabethan and Victorian city with a fair sprinkling of intrigue and magic.
The city of The Rook is where the four schools of Thaumaturgy can be found. These comprise of Hydromancer's (water), Pyromancer's (fire), Circumancer's (air), and last (but definitely not least) Terramancer's (earth). The Rook is the home of Erisa and Calico, the cat (who isn't actually a cat at all). Erisa wants an easy life, avoiding the officers of the law (but not the pie-men), but she's also desperate for an adventure-and she's about to find it. Mayor Bradley Mackrell just wants to play Stickball. Captain Virgil Steele just wants everyone to do as he says. Ace reporter Verity Apley wants to get the latest scoop, and consultative detectives Lysander Ravencrest and his companion, Doctor Gregory Bancroft, just want to solve any cases presented to them without wanting to strangle each other. Not only that, but there's a strange man with a very odd name swinging on a rope around the city, fighting crime, or at least scaring the local dog population. But that's not all of it because something is not quite right in The City of The Rook. People keep drowning when there is a total absence of water, houses are starting to fall down, and strange earth tremors are shaking the city. And that's just for a start because there is much more going on than they all realise. A brand-new series featuring a large cast of very odd characters, "Welcome to The Rook: Book One: The Hydromancer's Stone" is the first book in a trilogy of fantastic and not entirely serious adventures*. *There may be goblins**. **(Oh, and a map. There's definitely a map.)Les informations fournies dans la section « Synopsis » peuvent faire référence à une autre édition de ce titre.
Ex-drummer, Ex-software author and Ex-flares wearer Michael White was born and lives in the northwest of England. In a previous life he was the author of many text adventure games that were popular in the early 1980's. Realising that the creation of these games was in itself a form of writing he has since made the move into self-publishing, resulting in many short stories and novellas. Covering an eclectic range of subjects, the stories fall increasingly into that "difficult to categorise" genre, causing on-going headaches for the marketing department of his one man publishing company, Eighth Day Publishing.
Having accidentally sacked his marketing director (himself) three times in the last two years, he has now retired to a nice comfortable room where, if he behaves himself, they leave him to write in peace.
In his spare time (!) Michael likes to listen to all kinds of music, and is a big fan of Steven Moffat, whether he likes it or not.
Michael is currently working on several new projects and can be contacted on my own website at http: //mikewhiteauthor.wordpress.com or via twitter on @mikewhiteauthor
