FINDING ELIZABETH is a coming of age story that follows a true account of the Author. She is a young African girl born and raised ins middle-class Zimbabwean family. The memoir follows her journey as she rediscovers her spiritual awakening, which she always thought, was her vivid imaginings. This re-discovery creates a rift within her surroundings has leading her to having trouble with fitting A. she creates a facade to look cool while at school but only gives off a 'snob character'. She goes through high school and most part of her life like an ostrich with her head in the sand. At 16 tragedy befalls her; her father passes away and that sends her into a depressive state and the life she knew changes abruptly. She realizes that depression is an alien topic in her family. She finds herself uprooted from the world she knows and funny enough this new world is High school all over again.I am- is a story of self-discovery, seeking validation, and feeling worthless in the eyes of people she calls family and trusted. The issue of acceptance is brought out as the protagonist struggles with accepting a spiritual gift bestowed on her and at the same time feels like society will not accept her. She struggles to adjust to her surroundings thus leading to depression, she contemplates on escaping, and suicide gets on the table. She is hooked on a cure for her nosebleeds; and becomes a bad habit she must kick. One support structure keeps her head above water, until she accepts who she is. A journey back home reconnects her with her true self.
