Synopsis

Balkan Noir: A Novella by B.P. Stone

Brian Connelly was once a decorated NYPD detective, a first responder who witnessed the horrors of September 11th and later as a first reponder to the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando. However, the medals and commendations couldn't silence the ghosts. Haunted by trauma and disillusioned with the country he once served, Connelly vanishes from the radar, leaving behind his badge, the bureaucracy, and the broken promises of justice.

Now drifting through the shadowy corridors of the Balkans and the sultry streets of Buenos Aires, Connelly has become something entirely different, a freelance operative in the murky world of covert intelligence and wet work. He's a man without a country, without a cause, and increasingly, without a conscience. Yet, even in exile, the past refuses to stay buried.

As he navigates a landscape of shifting loyalties, war-scarred cities, and clandestine missions, Connelly finds himself repeatedly drawn into the orbit of a mysterious woman known only as Eva. She's elusive, seductive, and possibly lethal. Their encounters are brief, electric, and always leave more questions than answers. Is she a spy, a ghost from his past, or something far more dangerous?

When a routine assignment in Albania spirals into a deadly conspiracy involving rogue agents, Balkan war criminals, and a plot that could destabilize an entire region, Connelly must confront the one enemy he's never been able to outrun, himself. With Eva's motives unclear and his own sanity fraying, he's forced to choose between redemption and revenge.

Balkan Noir is a taut, atmospheric novella that blends psychological suspense with geopolitical intrigue. Set against the backdrop of post-conflict Europe and the emotional wreckage of a man who has seen too much, it's a story of identity, trauma, and the thin line between justice and vengeance. For fans of le Carré, Ellroy, and noir fiction with a conscience, this is a journey into the heart of darkness, where every alley hides a secret, and every choice comes with a price.
