Synopsis

Three bodies in a Mission District apartment should have been a straightforward gang homicide. Detective Miguel Ramirez knows almost immediately that they aren't.

The scene is too clean. The bodies have been arranged. Evidence has been removed with surgical precision. And buried beneath the paperwork is a connection to a network of shell companies moving quietly through San Francisco's real estate and housing system.

Across the city, former journalist Sophia Lin is searching for her missing brother, David. His trail leads to a predatory loan, a disappearing lender, and properties controlled by companies that seem to exist only on paper.

Ramirez and Sophia are following different clues, but both lead to the same hidden machinery: fraudulent loans, compromised development programs, manipulated permits, and a criminal network built to look exactly like legitimate business.

The deeper they dig, the clearer the danger becomes. This organization does not survive by hiding outside the system.

It survives by becoming part of it.

Set against the fog, neighborhoods, bureaucracy, and shifting power structures of San Francisco, Shadow Lines is a crime thriller about murder, money, corruption, and the people who discover that the safest place for a criminal enterprise to hide is behind paperwork everyone assumes is legitimate.
