Matt Witt is a writer and photographer in Talent, Oregon whose work may be seen at MattWittPhotography.com. Witt has worked for unions and community groups organizing on climate action, housing affordability, economic and racial justice, workers' rights, union democracy, Indigenous rights, and other issues in the U.S. and Mexico.He is author of "In Our Blood," a book about coal mining families and communities from Appalachia to Black Mesa. His book, "Monumental Beauty: Wonders Worth Protecting in the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument," features 132 photographs and informative text highlighting the beauty and biodiversity of a special ecosystem in southern Oregon and northern California. Witt's documentary, "$4 a Day? No Way!: Joining Hands Across the Border," tells the dramatic story of working people in Mexico, the U.S., and Canada courageously organizing together for better conditions in all three countries.His writing has appeared in the Washington Post, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Writers on the Range, Rethinking Schools, Cirque, and many other publications.He is editor of the free emailed bulletin, World Wide Work, which alerts readers to new films, books, and music they may have missed. Witt has been selected as Artist in Residence at Crater Lake National Park, Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness Foundation, Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument, Mesa Refuge, and PLAYA at Summer Lake, and as an Artist in Partnership with the Vesper Meadow Education Program. His photographs have been selected for many exhibitions in the U.S. and Europe. His favorite holidays are the solstices and equinoxes that mark the transitions from one season to the next.
