Synopsis
Joseph Harrison—the only child of a World War II veteran and Purple Heart recipient—graduates from college in 1967 with an electrical engineering degree in one hand and a Vietnam draft notice in the other. Determined to control his future, Joe devises a legal way to secure a draft deferment. Freed from military service, he builds a successful career and comfortable life while many of his contemporaries are fighting—and dying—in Southeast Asia.
But, success cannot silence Joe’s sense of guilt for having manipulated the system to avoid military service. He is driven to make a series of calculations that will affect both his life and the lives of others. Ultimately, he will be forced to confront the question that has haunted him since 1967: Can Joseph Harrison live with the consequences of his decisions?
