Synopsis

"When a system is far from equilibrium, small islands of coherence in a sea of chaos have the capacity to elevate the entire system."

Ilya Prigogine

There is a convergence of environmental, political, and social chal-lenges that strains both our institutions and our relationships. After a career in public education and recent work with Elders Action Network, I've come to conclude that one of the most powerful responses to the moment is surprisingly simple: Human Connection. This story is about one such "island of coherence," found not in a formal organization, but in a parking lot on The Big Island of Hawaii.

À propos de l'auteur

John Daggett is a native of Portland, Oregon with a career in public education. He is an octogenarian and a member of the non-profit, Elders Action Network. His PhD dissertation focused on how to make the decision of a problem-solving group exceed the smartest person in the group. This story parallels that theme by focusing on community groups.
