Synopsis
A little boy looks at a star and makes a wish. A young woman, newly divorced, confronts an important moment from her past. A man who prefers solitude is forced to entertain an unwanted guest. A pregnant woman stares down at a gravesite and ponders her future. These are a few of the characters and situations you will meet in The Weary Heart, a collection of short stories and sketches centered mostly on small-town life, and written with a sensibility both warm and challenging. Most of the stories presented here are not long, though a few do require an attention span that goes beyond the 5 minute mark. Be forewarned! You may get so lost in the prose that you'll forget the passing of time.

The Weary Heart (Paperback)

Évaluation du vendeur 5 sur 5 étoiles
Paperback. Etat : new. Paperback. It's been said that any work of fiction is more or less autobiographical because it reveals the shape of the author's mind, his or her attitude towards life and living, his or her prejudices, sense of humor, political leanings, etc. It can, in short, be a revelation of the author's personality. This is as true in a collection of shorter works as it is in a single longer one; the greater variety of situations, characters, points-of-view, and plot lines in a collection of stories gives color to the authorial persona in a manner similar to the larger canvas of the novel. The persona in the case of The Weary Heart is stable, grounded, perhaps even slightly old-fashioned with regard to the approach taken to the tales included. The lead characters are male and female, younger and older, facing a variety of situations, all of which, if not situations we've faced ourselves, are ones that can be easily understood and imagined. Stories take place in suburban/small town settings. The collection's total length is that of a novella; individual stories range from very short to, in a few cases, fairly lengthy. Enjoy.
