Eight amateur artists from Toronto embark on a holiday in Scotland, looking for stunning landscapes to paint and a pleasant distraction from their heartaches, career challenges and one dark secret that comes back to haunt them all: Elizabeth hasn't travelled since her husband died; Isabel wants a change of scene: Bob's heart is secretly broken while Jean needs a break from the slightly shady job she has had to take after a spectacular fall from a stellar career in law. What starts as an idyllic outing quickly turns into something more sinister as they stumble onto the body of a murder victim and become entangled in a case of art forgery that threatens them all. And as they struggle to deal with this shocking turn of events, the rumoured sale of the impressionist masterpiece, Dark Star at Midnight, sets off a chain of events that turns deadly.
