"To vividly describe everyday life and events, trying to capture the essence of moments" - this is the best description of haiku, at least those that I have written, that I can invent. I've read, with great pleasure and attentiveness, hakuists from the past, and have learned something from them all. Hiroaki Sato is a personal favorite, and the hakuist I've taken most inspiration from. The poems I've collected here are written in free form style, with subjects that are relatively traditional. I tend to think a book like this should read almost like a story - of a life, of a personality. This personality on offer here is, I think, warm, and hopefully interesting enough to engage your attention for the brief time he asks to spend in your company.
