The year was 1873 a small wagon train with 18 covered wagons left Independence, Missouri bound for Tucson in the Arizona Territory. The folks onboard are looking for cheap and fertile land, wide open spaces to build a home and a new beginning in a wild and unsettled land. Among the travelers is a young Hispanic woman and her parents. She has just graduated from a women's college in St. Louis, Missouri where she earned a teacher's certificate and she is going to Tucson, Arizona where she is fulfilling her dream of teaching in a prestigious Catholic school for women only. At the same time, her father a Lt. Colonel in the Army has been promoted to take command of a military fort in Arizona near the town of Tucson. Fort Lowell was heavily engaged in the Apache Indian wars in the southwest at that time. While traveling on the wagon train their daughter meets the Indian scout and guide and a romance between them slowly develops at some point in the course of the six-month dangerous journey. The wagon train experiences the usual problems along the way. Indian encounters from perhaps four different tribes as they move across five or six states. On the journey the travelers will experience harsh weather conditions, wagon breakdowns, bad storms, along with illness, injuries, and death along their perilous journey.
