First Huntress Tali, the fiercest protector of her Tribe, is weary. "Little ones"-humans-whose myriad numbers and propensity for mindless slaughter long ago forced the Tribe's exodus to the remotest outskirts of the world, have been intruding on their sanctuary with alarming frequency. Having nearly annihilated the Tribe before, Tali is certain they are a looming and increasing threat to their ancient balance. It is merely a matter of time before they are discovered.
Her fears are validated when the new First Huntress, her daughter Kavra discovers that humans accidentally breached the prison housing those from their Tribe whose violence forfeited their freedom. The humans are slaughtered, igniting a war. Both women must navigate misunderstandings, and millennia of lore to derail an escalating conflict which the giants cannot win.
The Giant War explores the tragic reality that wars are often unleashed by profound misunderstandings mistaken as malice. Contrasting the ecologically reverent, physically superior giants comfortable with their niche with the technologically advanced, voraciously expansionist humans, the primal contradictions of diametrically opposed civilizations play out in an uncomfortably familiar manner.
