Synopsis

When the world's most impossible boss meets the one chef who refuses to be fired, it turns his carefully controlled life into total chaos.

Alexander Rooke doesn't do imperfect. Not in his boardroom, not in his billion-dollar empire, and certainly not on his dinner plate - which is why he's fired thirty-six chefs in six months for crimes ranging from "over-seasoning" to "emotional instability in a lasagna." Enter Pepper Moore: self-taught, sharp-tongued, and constitutionally incapable of being intimidated by a man in a good suit. She didn't come to survive him. She came to cook.

Which is exactly the problem. Because Rooke has never met anyone who talks back, refuses to shrink, and somehow makes a grilled cheese taste like a memory he didn't know he still had. What starts as a battle of wills over knife skills and kitchen rules quietly turns into something neither of them ordered - something that tastes a lot like trust, and a little like falling.

Pepper knows better than to fall for a man who fires people for breathing wrong. Rooke knows better than to want the one person he can't control.

Neither of them listens.

À propos de l'auteur

Erika Alagba writes stories about love as it really is-complicated, resilient, and shaped by the seasons we don't always expect. Her work explores marriage, grief, identity, and the quiet moments when people are forced to choose between endurance and self-preservation.

With a deep interest in human behavior and emotional healing, she draws from years of listening to stories that rarely make it into neat conversations. Her writing is grounded in compassion, honesty, and the belief that telling the truth can be a form of care.

This is her first novel, written for women and families who have felt stretched to their limits and are still searching for clarity, hope, and the courage to begin again.

She believes that becoming yourself is not an act of rebellion, but an act of survival.
