Some names were returned. Others kept traveling. Willow's Crossing believed the Ashwater had gone quiet. It had not. Months after the vigil at the river, forgotten names begin surfacing far beyond town limits-in burial records, slave ledgers, census rolls, and ruined archives scattered across the South. Names once thought lost are appearing where they should not exist. And they are not alone. When Naomi Brooks uncovers a pattern linking the records, Mara Greene realizes the haunting at Ashwater was never confined to one river, one town, or one history. Something is moving through old waterways, broken lineages, and places where memory was buried to survive. What rose in Willow's Crossing is rising elsewhere. As families confront secrets hidden for generations, Mara begins to sense a presence unlike anything she has faced before-not a chorus of restless spirits, but a network of unfinished stories reaching toward one another across distance and time. But remembrance carries a cost. Old wounds reopen. Communities divide. And as fear grows over what has been awakened, Mara must decide whether to help contain the reckoning... or follow it. Because some names were never meant to disappear. And now that they have been spoken, they are finding their way home.

Albert Scales, PhD, DBA is an author, ordained metaphysical minister, and sacred healing practitioner whose work explores memory, healing, spirituality, and transformation through both fiction and nonfiction. An African American writer who grew up in the inner cities of Essex County, New Jersey, with family roots tracing back to the plantations of the Carolinas, his writing is shaped by history, resilience, cultural memory, and the quiet truths carried through generations.
He is the creator of the Brave on the Inside children's book series, featuring a young Black girl navigating self-confidence, courage, emotional awareness, and finding her voice. These stories are written for children who may feel unseen or uncertain, while creating space for meaningful conversations between children, parents, and educators.
He is the creator of the Haunt's of Willow's Crossing and Ashwater Triologies, which are cozy-horror fictions from an African American perspective, blending the supernatural with family history, ancestral memory, and community life. His stories focus less on fear than atmosphere, exploring how the past lingers, how places hold memory, and how healing can emerge from inherited truths.
Across all of his work-whether spiritual writing, children's literature, or fiction-he centers healing, consciousness, and African American experience with care, intention, and emotional depth.
