Throughout his military career, Jerry has served in numerous operational and institutional assignments spanning a wide variety of missions around the globe. He previously held the position of lead space planner for the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command from 2018-2019. In that capacity, he served as an original member of the planning team that estab-lished U.S. Space Command and is considered a founding member of the Space Force for helping plan the new service's creation. Jerry is currently the chief of joint space training in the Department of Joint, Interagency, and Multinational Operations at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. He holds a Bachelor of Science in art, philosophy, and literature from the U.S. Military Academy and a Master of Science in astronautical engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School where his thesis work focused on applied robotic manipulation using small space-craft. Jerry is a 2017 Art of War Scholar and a 2018 graduate of the School of Advanced Military Studies. Through those opportunities he studied the Army's role in the early Space Race and the integration of space systems into operational-level planning. He completed his PhD in Space Resources through the Colorado School of Mines where his dissertation addressed harvesting nitrogen on Mars. He lives in Kansas with his wife and four children.
