Synopsis
Julius Caesar is a polarizing historical figure. Much has been written about him, by himself and others. Of his entire life, the least documented period is the years from 62 to 60 BCE. His time as governor of Spain. The time when he levied the 10th Legion. He had picked all its officers. Trained them personally and waged two years of bloody wars against the Iberian tribes with the 8th, 9th, and 10th Legions. Caesar himself omitted this portion of his life from his memoirs.
Only 3 ancient historians wrote about that time: Plutarch, Suetonius, and Cassius Dio. Of them, only Cassius Dio gives any details about his campaigns, which he wrote over 200 years after the events. Almost nothing else is known about those years. Why so much secrecy? What did Caesar want hidden?
The second book in The 10th Legion series, Secrets Lost to History, details this undocumented and unheralded portion of Caesar and Crastinus’s lives. It gives one possible explanation as to why Caesar wanted it kept secret.
