Over ten years ago, I was sitting in a jail cell.
I was 30 years old, and in a moment of desperation, anger, and total lack of accountability, I had committed a bank robbery. That choice was not just a crime, it was the final symptom of years of excuses, years of blame, years of telling myself I was a victim.
For a long time, I thought my life fell apart because
of what other's had done to me. The anger that built up from the continued mental and emotional abuse became a crutch I leaned on for years. Ultimately becoming an excuse to myself for every poor choice I was making in my life. But from it all, I finally faced a truth I ignored all those years. my life was broken not because of what others did to me, but because of my own choices that followed.
That's when accountability became my foundation. Taking ownership of your own life isn’t about blame or shame. It’s about power. When you take accountability, you stop giving away control. You stop waiting on the world to change, and you start creating the change yourself. It's how I went from rock bottom to building an impactful professional career, mentoring entrepreneurs, and becoming a youth advocate speaker.
