THE STATIC CLOWN (The Vault Chronicles Book 2)
DO NOT APPLAUD.
DO NOT LAUGH.
AND WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT BECOME THE HINGE.
The stage storage room at Oakhaven Middle School has always been locked. But today, there is a fan running inside. Today, the door handle is twitching. And today, a thin grey shimmer is leaking from the vents, smelling like burnt dust and ozone.
When a fourth-grader named Milo reports seeing a "Static Clown" pressing invisible walls into the air, Jace and his friends realize the Vault isn't just a hole in the woods anymore. It’s in the building.
The glitch has a new rule: Performance. It wants an audience. It wants a rhythm. It wants the whole school to gather in the gym for an assembly that wasn't on the schedule.
If you clap, you feed it.
If you watch, you trap yourself.
The only things standing between the student body and a total reality collapse are a few sticks of chalk, a cheap desk fan, and Mr. K - the janitor who knows that the first lock stops people, but the second lock stops problems.
The rules of engagement have changed:
Air clears static: Keep the wind moving.
Chalk makes friction: Mark the boundaries before they move.
Boredom is armor: Do not give the show the reaction it craves.
The Vault is open. The show is starting. And the only way to survive is to refuse to participate.
