Synopsis
The enchantment of words, can sometimes save us from the disenchantment of the world. And yet at other times they are the very problem. We confuse ourselves with our mumbling, when all along the saving grace is in fact stumbling headlong and heart-long into what "is" before it has been so inartfully framed by this strange inheritance we call knowledge. This is yet another slim volume that in and of itself can't support a reading through and through from cover to cover. Rather, its preference and my preference is stichomancy, that is, just open it at random and occasionally read a single poem. True, the phone book would work just as well, but there are so few of them around these days. On the other hand the stick-o-mancy of just taking a walk in the woods that might provide at least a canvas upon which to practice Ornithomancy, is even better. But it would be cruel to try and stuff birds into verse, much as poets through the centuries have tried to do so. But most importantly I do not recommend hepatoscopy as there are already far too many animals being sacrificed on the alter of so-called human progress. We are all in this together, and our frictions are our neighbors frictions, just as our fictions impinge upon our neighbors frictions, and last time I looked it is a very close, all snarled up, basically inescapable neighborhood to begin with. So don't shut down your senses, and don't shut down your heart, and don't shut down you mind as long as it is open, and willing to dream beyond what it has dreamed so far.
