To all my fellow accountants ... a fair warning ...this book has some really bad accounting puns. But, if you have the typical accountant's sense of humor, then you are likely to enjoy them.
Over the past 30 years in the accounting world, I have accumulated a number of random thoughts about the phrases we use daily, how meaningless they are to folks outside the industry (e.g., my wife) and how these phrases could have a truly different meaning in another world (such as the wacky world of my mind).
Some of these puns are better than others. Some I am really proud of (like the 'con-trolls' and 'n-trees'), whereas others are a bit of a stretch (such as a few of the 'tacks' puns.) Some of them are more related to IT or law rather than accounting. Some are so abstract that I felt obligated to provide a hint. But one thing is for sure ... they are all quite punny. (Yep, you read
that right... punny ... not funny).
A big thanks to cartoonist Greg Russell for bringing the puns to life with animations in a way that I am not able. (Hey! I use calculators, not brushes and canvas.)
Lastly, thank you to my wife for tolerating a number of these types of jokes throughout our 15 years together. I cannot wait to truly embarrass my kids when they have to admit to their friends in high school that their dad wrote a punny accounting book. Until then, happy accounting. - Gene Earl Edger (...get the pen name?)
