Sujata Sengupta was born in a remote village in West Bengal, the youngest of three children. Her father taught at a school for tribal children, and after Partition, the family had to leave their ancestral home and rebuild their lives amid uncertainty. Despite the poverty around her, books became her refuge; though she studied science at university, her pull toward writing never left her. Her husband's transferable job took her across many corners of the country, where she came to know countless lives and people with deep intimacy. Her only daughter graduated from IIT Kharagpur and now lives and works in the United States. Through it all, her husband stood beside her in the belief that people should be seen simply as people - beyond caste, religion, or class - until she lost him in 2022.Today, her pen and diary are her constant companions. On her travels, she quietly gathers the emotions, pain, and love of the people she meets, setting them down on paper - and now, at her daughter's encouragement, she brings these long-held stories to readers in this collection.
