The Lonsdales of Ainley Hall is a fast-moving story of intrigue, skulduggery, romance and adventure set in the 1830s against the background of the illegal slave trade.
Slaves from the Caribbean are smuggled into the Yorkshire Dales in England by the unscrupulous Hiram Calvert whose hold over the Lonsdale estate encourages him to tighten his grip as Sir Richard's ill health deteriorates. When evidence emerges that compromises Sir Richard, Calvert is certain his plans will succeed... unless a witness to the truth can be found.
On the island of Tortola in the Caribbean, a slave uprising terrorizes Calvert's brother, causing him to flee his plantation leaving his daughter, Annabelle, to find her own way back home to Savannah. Her ultimate escape to England finds her crossing paths with Martin Lonsdale; her future becomes inextricably bound with the Lonsdales.
