Tome 2. Toward Jerusalem
You are the end point of an unbroken chain of survival. Every person who came before you — through plague, war, famine, and flood — lived long enough to pass forward what was necessary for you to exist. You did not begin when you were born. You began when humanity began. Everything that happened between that beginning and this moment is not the past in any abstract sense. It is the story of the making of you.
This book takes you to one of the most extraordinary moments in that story. Galilee and Jerusalem. 27–30 CE. A carpenter's son from a village of two hundred people in an occupied province at the edge of empire. Three years. Twelve men called from their trades. A road that ended at a hill outside a city gate. He wrote nothing down. Not one word in his own hand survives. The arguments about what he meant have never stopped.
Toward Jerusalem asks what it would have meant to be inside those three years. Not as a king. Not as a priest. But as the man himself — Yeshua bar Yosef, the builder from Nazareth, who sat on a hillside above the Sea of Galilee at dawn and told the poorest people in the province that the kingdom belonged to them.
The facts are extraordinary enough. The Pilate Stone, found at Caesarea Maritima in 1961, is the first physical evidence outside scripture of any person named in the Passion narrative. The ossuary of the high priest Caiaphas was discovered in Jerusalem in 1990. A first-century Galilean fishing boat was excavated from the mud of the Sea of Galilee in 1986 — the kind of boat he slept in, crossed in, stilled a storm from. The Sermon on the Mount contains no army, no conquest, no political program. Only: blessed are the poor. Blessed are the meek. No one has fully explained why it is still being read.
History is not a sequence of dates. It is the record of billions of lives lived forward through a present that was, to each of them, as urgent as your own. Dawn over the Sea of Galilee. The weight of a net in cold water. A road climbing toward Jerusalem, the white city on its hill, getting closer. They walked something that is still asking us questions. This book is the attempt of one ordinary witness to answer.
For homeschooling families: You are already doing the most important thing — putting the story of humanity directly into your children's hands. The Beyond His Story We Stand series was written for you. Each book takes one moment in human history and makes it lived rather than memorised, felt rather than filed away. Not a textbook. Not a syllabus. A story your child will not want to put down — and that will leave them asking the questions that no curriculum can generate for them. The questions that only wonder produces.
Toward Jerusalem — Tome 2 of I, Yeshua of the Beyond His Story We Stand series — a chronological journey through human history, told through the eyes of the people official history forgot to record.
He lived exactly what he believed. It cost him everything. That is why we are still here, asking.
