Synopsis
Hard work, no pay, and embarrassing conditions can’t stop a young Woods Hole artist from signing on as the ship’s mechanic for his first oceanographic expedition. Calvin Landry is seasick, out of his depth in science, and hopelessly smitten with a member of the scientific crew—what begins as awkward survival quickly turns into a stirring tale of love, discovery, and courage at sea.
Bird of Passage is a fictional account of E.K. King’s first shark tracking cruise with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution scientist Dr. Frank Carey. A pioneer in acoustic fish tracking and considered a world’s authority on the physiology, behavior, and ecology of the great migrating fishes of the sea—among them tuna, sharks, and swordfish. In 1979 Dr. Carey was the first to record the internal body temperature and electronically track a great white shark.
