A Life We Forgot is a subdued but emotive psychological thriller which deals with the theme of invisibility, power, and what is left after the power to control has gone.
Andrew is a man of design rather than desire. Intelligent, detailed and intentionally unnoticeable, he operates within huge systems, mending what others overlook, thinking that silence is safety and anonymity is survival. His life is like a maze of strict patterns until Lena Carter is somehow, brought in as an intern but carrying questions that no one else is willing to ask. Later, when she unveils herself as the CEO of the company, Andrew's meticulously planned invisibility shatters. Faced with recognition, he cannot remain hidden anymore and therefore, truths that had been buried resurface. Not only is Andrew the man who gets the mechanics of the systemhe is in fact, Ethan Cross, a former secret agent who was unofficially killed. The moment when Lena is taken away by force, the past that he had wiped away in a very brutal manner comes back to haunt him, revealing the price of quietness and the peril of being seen. After that is not a narrative of power or revenge but that of consequence. As the closures of institutions become imminent and the old powers start to stir again, Ethan has to make up his mind either to vanish once more or be there in the world that no longer requires a watcher for survival. On the one hand, the main theme of A Life We Forgot is systems learning, responsibility becoming shared, and a man who was very vigilant but eventually discovered that he could live without it. This is a story of the passing of necessity, the quiet strength of care, and a world that ultimately learns how to look for itself.
