Synopsis
During the early years of US Army Special Forces
development, many of their assigned missions were so
secret that for years, nothing was known about the American
soldiers who put their lives at risk each day to complete them.
When faced with reality, the truth is sometimes stranger than
fiction.
Much of their work was covertly conducted in the barren deserts
of nations bordering the Soviet Union, the historic lands of
Europe, the jungles of Asia, and the mountains of South America.
This work of fiction was inspired by the true invasion of Tibet by
Red China in 1956 and the overthrow of the weak civilian
democratically elected Burmese government in 1962. It is the
story of how sixteen men of Operational Detachment 903, 77th
Special Forces Group, Airborne, were organized and entered
north-central Burma on extremely dangerous missions.
Since the end of World War II, such small units have secretly
conducted deep reconnaissance forays in places where the faint of
heart refuse to go, and the civilian population is kept in the dark.
Such was the hot Cold War.
This book will introduce you to the members of one such unit.
Their missions were full of surprises for both the men of this
daring detachment and the enemy they encountered. You will
