Synopsis
From the beginning of time, God has spoken to His people through true prophets—men and women anointed to deliver His word, often at great personal cost. Yet, wherever God raised a true prophet, the enemy quickly raised a counterfeit. The serpent in Eden spoke words that sounded appealing but carried death. That ancient pattern has never ceased. Throughout history, false prophets have plagued the people of God with lying visions, empty promises, and smooth words that lead to destruction.
The tragedy is not merely that false prophets exist, but that multitudes prefer their words to the voice of truth. In the days of Jeremiah, the people cried, “Do not prophesy to us what is right; speak to us smooth things, prophesy illusions” (Isaiah 30:10). They wanted comfort over conviction, pleasure over repentance, and deception over truth. And because they rejected the true word of the Lord, judgment followed.
Today, we face the same danger. The Church is flooded with voices—on pulpits, television, social media, and platforms of influence—all claiming to speak for God. Some speak words that tickle ears but never pierce hearts. Others perform signs and wonders, yet their fruit reveals corruption. The apostle Peter warned us long ago: “There were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies…” (2 Peter 2:1). The Word does not say “there might be” but “there will be.”
The consequences of following false prophets are devastating. Families are ruined. Faith is shattered. Nations are led astray. Above all, the name of the Lord is dishonored. God takes this matter seriously, for it is not only deception against people—it is rebellion against His truth.
