About the Author: Vamba (Luigi Bertelli)

The brilliant mind behind Ciondolino was Luigi Bertelli (1860–1920), an Italian writer, illustrator, and journalist who wrote under the famous pseudonym Vamba.

Born in Florence, Bertelli began his career as a journalist and caricaturist, contributing sharp, satirical humor to various Roman newspapers. However, he eventually dedicated his considerable talents to children's literature, driven by a desire to educate and inspire the next generation.

His works, known for their lively style and deep understanding of childhood mischief and moral development, established him as one of Italy's most beloved children's authors. Ciondolino and his later masterpiece, Il Giornalino di Gian Burrasca, have charmed Italian readers for over a century and continue to be treasured classics around the world.
