Synopsis

Stevie James would be content remaining just a kid, but family, human biology, school and even world affairs just won’t let that happen. There are many lessons he must absorb on his journey from adolescence to young adulthood, including piano and dancing lessons, learning to play spin the bottle, and being instructed on the fine art of constructing a gasmask out of a 20 oz. soda bottle for use at a Vietnam War protest rally.

1969 was a momentous year in this country’s history. It was a year of cultural landmarks like Woodstock, the Stonewall Uprising, the Apollo 11 moon landing and the Santa Barbara oil spill. It was a year when a variety of movements made the news: the Civil Rights Movement, the Women and Gay Liberation Movements, and the Vietnam Anti-War Movement all marked the end of an epochal decade. Stevie’s life reflects some of the chaos of this period, and his journey is only beginning. He'll make mistakes along the way, but he’s a level-headed kid, and the odds are he’ll make out okay.
