The Edenton Rebellion – Women Who Defied an Empire
Part of the Hidden Histories of the Tar Heel State Series by author Robin Crumpler
They risked everything—with no right to vote, no political power, and no legal protection. But in 1774, a group of women from North Carolina helped change the course of American history.
In the quiet coastal town of Edenton, North Carolina, fifty-one bold women did what no colonial woman had ever dared: they publicly defied the British Crown, risking the death penalty for treason. Signing their names to a political petition boycotting British tea and goods, these women launched one of the earliest organized acts of female resistance in the American colonies—now known as the Edenton Tea Party.
The Edenton Rebellion – Women Who Defied an Empire brings this little-known Revolutionary War story to life with gripping historical detail and narrative flair. Readers will discover how these women’s actions shocked both American patriots and British loyalists, made headlines across the Atlantic, and helped ignite the spirit of independence in the American South.
