Hailstones of Love and Crackers is a collection of poems reflecting on health and social care, societal issues and family relationships.
The title is inspired by the themes that run through the poems, exploring the destructive aspect of love which, more often than not, is selfish, deceitful, arrogant, manipulative, and ready to betray at will. There’s usually that sense of entitlement that drives the other party insane at some point. When the one who is lovingly oppressed can no longer take the hailstones of love, they go crackers!
In the health and social care section, DNR explores the emotional chaos people go through when a sick loved one loses the zeal to keep fighting for their life; when they decide to end it all; when they opt for Do Not Resuscitate.
Societal issues have inspired poems like Little Man and A Seed in Limbo which respectively discuss the misfortune of dying no matter what you do and the disgusting attitude of crying foul while hurting other people.
Poems on family relationships examine how persons who wield power in the family or any relationship setup use that strength on those they look after; do they crudely care or lovingly kill their loved ones?
Interspersed within the collection are poems that take a glimpse at the natural environment, the dignity of the working class, flirting, and racism.
Enjoy!
