Mr Clarke did not set out to become a distributed systems expert. He was, in fact, simply trying to renew his university parking permit. But as fate (and a suspiciously insistent intern) would have it, he soon finds himself dragged into a world of cryptographic puzzles, decentralised mayhem, and something called a Merkle tree that definitely isn't botanical.
From the bowels of university administration to the shadowy corridors of the Intercontinental Blockchain Agency, Mr Clarke stumbles from lecture to ledger, from Byzantine generals to dubious NFTs. Along the way, he meets academics, cyber-idealists, slightly sinister coders, and at least one goat.
