Synopsis
For two years, Shalene Reddington has sailed the Caribbean as the captain of the schooner Banshee, raising the black flag whenever she found a prize that her crew of cutthroats could take. After capturing a brigantine to replace the worn Banshee, she is drawn back to the Spanish colony island where she grew up to rescue the mother of her dearest friend, only to discover it to be a trap.
An old enemy has returned, now appointed by the King of Spain to eradicate piracy from the Caribbean. He has already destroyed one of the ships of the Company of Four and he intends to wipe out the entire band. Shalene escapes his clutches only through the cunning of her quartermaster and the loyalty of her crew, but not before her nemesis leaves his mark on her.
It becomes a desperate war of wits between the pirates of the Company of Four and the Spanish pirate hunter, Lieutenant General Sebastian de León. The snares of the pirate hunter against the cunning of Shalene and her fellow captains. A battle of wits and of ships, where freedom is the reward for success and death the penalty for failure.
For Captain Reddington, the stakes were even higher, for her foe wanted her in his hands once again. Rather than allowing that to happen, Shalene vowed that wherever they met again, or land or sea, she would have the head of the cunning hunter or die in the attempt.
