Synopsis
Elevate literacy skills with Grade 2+ Book 2 Longer Words -es -ed -ing, 2-Syllable and Compound Words, and R-Controlled Vowels. There are 3 differentiated lessons for each of the following skills:
- Longer Words with -es and -ed
- Longer Words with -ing Endings
- 2 Syllable and Compound Words
- Ending Spelling Patterns -tch, -dge, -ild, -old, -ind, -olt, and -ost
- Cumulative Review of Ending Spelling Patterns
- Mixed R-Controlled Review /ar/ spelled -ar, /or/ spelled -or and -ore
- Mixed R-Controlled Review /er/ spelled -er, -ir, -ur, and w+or
- Cumulative Review of All R-Controlled Vowels
The scope and sequence of this program are closely aligned with the UFLI phonics progression as well as many other structured literacy phonics programs. Elevating Fluency was written and created by a reading interventionist and literacy coach. Highly engaging differentiated passages are provided for fluency instruction and practice.
The reading passage options for each skill are approximately 60 words, 90 words, and 130 words in length. Students are given multiple opportunities to read and write words with the targeted decoding skill(s), while connecting them to language and meaningful text. Furthermore, this program does so much more than provide differentiated passage lengths for students to practice essential phonics skills while reading meaningful text. It builds language by introducing your readers to vocabulary and accessing background knowledge about the topic. There is phonemic awareness practice with the specific phonics skill. Then, students practice the targeted phonics skill with word-level fluency, connected text, repeated reading, comprehension questions, spelling practice with sound-spelling boxes, and a dictation sentence.
The lessons are complete and ready to go, making them perfect for reading interventionists, classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, tutors, and homeschool settings. In addition to being aligned with the science of reading, it incorporates multiple strategies recommended for students with reading difficulties, including dyslexia (IDA).
