Dedicated mostly to the Engineering part of a ship, you will see the operations of a warship from an enlisted sailor’s perspective and his interactions with crewmates, officers, and equipment while visiting multiple Western Pacific ports. Special attention to activities with barmaids is included. You will get the feeling you were part of the crew by the explanations and personal activities at several domestic and foreign locations while learning what it takes to operate a warship from the engine rooms.
The stories contained take you from initial enlistment, Navy boot camp, specialized Engineering training, and eventual assignment to a brand-new ship first commissioned to join the Navy fleet. From that point on, job functions to operate machinery are interlaced with actions confronting senior petty officers as well as commissioned superiors. As a Reservist, this sailor struggled through hard learning curves before developing a comfortable knowledge of all important equipment, while also surviving a typhoon/hurricane storm and loss of his mother during his active-duty time. His eventual struggle to avoid weekend cruises during his last Reservist years exemplified his cunning approach to ultimately succeed. He also let his military time assist him in returning to school to complete an education that likely would not have occurred without his military service.
