George William Albert Koch was born in Germany in 1878. At age 14, he emigrated to the U.S. He graduated from Pratt Institute in New York. He worked as a freelance artist in Connecticut for several years, later becoming the art director of the American Crayon Company. The Prang Company originally published his works.
