Synopsis

The defining geo-political contest of our time is between china and the united states. How would south asia generally and pakistan particularly get affected from these developments is a billion dollar question, which will be addressed in this research. Significant economic, political and military changes are taking place in the world. The united states, which was a superpower after the end of second world war, became a supreme super power at the end of the cold war. The past few years have been the period of instability, crises and major changes in the international system. Four strategic events in particular have far greater effect on the international system in coming decades. They are the russian invasion of ukraine, the rise of india as major power, the rivalry between china and the united states and the instability in middle east. According to an international expert on investment rucher sharma, "right now, for the first time in my memory, we have an international financial crisis in which the dollar has been weakening rather than strengthening. I wonder if this is a sign of things to come" (gps, 26th march, 2023). On the other hand, all western and central european countries are decreasing their energy dependence on russia by exploring alternative options, especially germany, which is the biggest country in europe. The german chancellor olaf scholz said that it will spend $100 billion on defense to counter the expansion of the russian towards western europe. This idea was approved by the german parliament by two third majority, it includes buying latest weapons and jet from the united states like f-35 (scholz, 6th march, 2023). These developments show that a shift in international system is taking place and all countries are strategically re-aligning themselves according to their geo-strategic objectives and realities. The effect of these changes on pakistani national identity by incorporating shifts in domestic and foreign policy is the subject of investigation in this research.
