Synopsis
Duchenne muscular dystrophy is the best-known disease that causes muscle wasting. It is the most common muscular dystrophy in children. The disease is inherited in a recessive manner on the X chromosome, meaning that its actual manifestation occurs only in boys. The disease was named after the French doctor Duchenne de Boulogne in 1861.
This is the story of a lively little boy who, as an adult, can only dream of walking. Juha Olavi Rahkonen’s life has been a struggle with a rare neurological disease. Juha Rahkonen speaks openly about his daily life, thoughts, and hobbies; he has, among other things, published several fantasy novels. The reader also learns of the difficulties he has faced — and overcome as a winner. But victory cannot continue forever. Today, Juha is already living “on borrowed time,” having exceeded all life expectancy predictions.
