Synopsis

This is the second volume of Śrīla Satyanārāyaṇa Dāsa Bābājī's elucidation of the Rasa-līlā pastime, the dance of love of Śrī Kṛṣṇa and the gopīs, headed by Kṛṣṇa's supreme lover Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī.

The Rasa-līlā pastime is the essence and the cream of the Vedic Literature. It is the highest and purest expression of love of God, exemplified by the cowherd women of Vraja, the gopīs, for Kṛṣṇa. These five chapters of the 10th Canto of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam are called Rāsa-Pañcādhyāyī – the five life-airs, or essence, of the Bhāgavatam.

The gopīs’ bhāva, or moods of love, are explicated in the commentary of Śrīla Jīva Gosvāmī (here referred to as “Ṭīkā”) and further elucidated by the commentary of Śrīla Satyanārāyaṇa Dāsa Bābājī (referred to simply as “Commentary’). The witty repartee between Kṛṣṇa and the gopīs, presented in this second volume, transport the reader from mundane reality to the transcendental realm of pure love. The sensitive readers and the rasika devotees will relish this deeply for it will greatly enrich their bhajana life.

This kathā is part of Prīti Sandarbha, translated with a commentary by Śrīla Satyanārāyaṇa Dāsa Bābājī and spoken during the spring of 2025 at the Jīva Institute of Vedic Studies, Vṛndāvana.
