Synopsis

Our story is set in sunny Ortigia, a popular tourist destination in Siracusa, South East Sicily. One day, out of the blue, the reliable Roberta doesn’t turn up for work at her launderette. The police believe that she has been abducted.
Meanwhile, over in the USA, Roberta’s son Dani is about to play in the World Series- the world’s biggest baseball tournament. The police suspect that Dani is being blackmailed as part of a gambling scam. They put in place an undercover operation and spread the story that Roberta is on holiday, whilst they try to discover her whereabouts.
During the week of the World Series, we meet different characters, including Roberta’s best friend, the local priest, a group of migrant workers and the prospective mayor of Siracusa. And we learn how their lives are interlinked, in often unexpected ways.
In a race against time, can the police find and free Roberta? Can those responsible for the plight of the migrant workers be caught and brought to justice? And will Dani’s team win the World Series?
