Synopsis

"Clowns & Outlaws" is a selection of poet Sean Rima's gritty free verse and haiku spanning the years 2001-2024. This collection explores a diverse range of themes from Rima's personal experiences, including fatherhood, divorce, addiction, love, illness, aging, and death, as he chases his own, weird version of the American Dream from Eastern Maryland to San Antonio, Texas. Reflecting on major historical events from 9/11 through COVID, the poet encounters many iconic 'clowns & outlaws' along the way, including Willie Nelson, Ruth Buzzi, and Billy Joe Shaver, as well as his close friend and mentor, Kinky Friedman.

"Sean is my second favorite living poet. The first is Billy Joe Shaver." Kinky Friedman, 2016.

"The key to poetry-writing is to train your brain to see the world as if you are experiencing it for the very first time, all the time. In this way, even the most mundane things become strange and beautiful..."
