How Liberty Lives is written in defense of civil liberties and in honor of the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
It provides narrated collection of 250 inspiring and insightful quotes about civil liberties and liberal democracy covering a wide range of authors/thinkers and time periods.
The book discusses the progress made in supporting civil liberties over the first 250 years of the United States, and then reviews the four most significant risks to civil liberties and how each affects the other.
Specifically, How Liberty Lives identifies tech-enabled mass surveillance, vague laws, an overly harsh criminal justice system, and low civic awareness as the most pressing issues impacting the future of civil liberties. The book concludes with potential solutions – proposed 28th-34th amendments to the Constitution as well as a “Recipe for Liberty.”
How Liberty Lives content will enter the public domain on July 4, 2026 in honor of America’s Semiquincentennial.

He presented his work to the Harvard Innovation Lab, IBM, CNBC, Inside Edition, and cryptocurrency news outlets. A current high school senior, Courey strongly believes that the more well-informed the people are, the freer the nation will be.
