Synopsis
The 26 short stories of A Lifelong Walk to the Same Exact Spot explore the consequences of infatuation and heartbreak combining realism with relentless twists. In “Arm Candy” a comedian devises a plan to counter an ex-girlfriend bringing her new beau to his show. Enter Venessa, a bombshell friend willing to make sure Amber gets the point. “Windshield” features nice-guy Mitch taking chivalry to the extreme by braving a blizzard to clear Krista's car. A noble gesture, until her boyfriend gets the same idea. In “Picking Up the Tab” an errant text from a buddy’s obnoxious wife puts Davis in an odd predicament, compelling him to make the most of his stacked hand.
In addition to the short stories set in dive bars, classrooms, and everywhere else love begins and ends, Durham adds an extra dimension to the collection with strokes of nostalgia and sentimentalism through poetry and creative nonfiction.
