He recognized Adolf Hitler as an expansionist dictator, dangerous to the world and his own people as well. He also had a deep distrust of the Russian Army.
He was a member of the greatest generation and served in the military without complaint. He was in the European Theatre and liked and respected the native citizens of North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, and Germany as he advanced with the Allied forces.

He had many unique experiences including numerous amazing and humorous events. Garn Hatch volunteered to stay in the Occupation Army for one year after the cessation of hostilities, to work toward lasting peace, and returned homer a Major.
