Synopsis

The Boys of The Seminary is a coming of age story set in South Texas in the 1970's. It portrays the lives of four teenage Latino alter boys who attended a minor Seminary school near their hometown. The story is told through the recollections of the main character, JOE MEDINA. It describes how he and his friends EDUARDO, MARCOS and MARTIN attended the school with the Priests and Catholic Nuns for four years and how they create havoc while living in the dorms. The main character's journey through life with its mischievous antics and humor that only a catholic boy could describe. Through the boys' misadventures and conversations, the reader learns about each character's personality. Each of the boys, for varying reasons, lives in the shadow of their fathers. Joe’s talent for storytelling pegs him as the most likely of the four to have a promising future even though he pursues a different career. The story contrasts the four main characters, which are depicted as well-meaning and relatively virtuous. Crucial to the story are the inter-personal exchanges among the four main characters, many sophomoric, which are very typical among teenage boys.
