James Balthas, a young black man from St. Louis, is proud of the grand tradition of equality established by the traditional, confessional church his family has attended for generations―a church body which traces its roots to medieval Germany.
While attending a church-run college, James realizes things around him are not what they seem, finding himself drowning under the previously unseen weight of duplicity, deceit, political opportunism, racial disharmony, and grievance. Through the guidance of R.F. Jenkins, a pastor and mentor who has seen it all, James pursues a journey of self-discovery and learns the purpose of lament.
During his quest, James crosses paths with a wild cast of characters who force him to ponder and reconsider the irrationality of the world around him―ultimately leading him to discover what is significant is being anointed through truth and integrity.
"In the Time of Anointing" follows a young man's confrontation with ignorance and racial intolerance during his own pursuit of personal authenticity.
